A Cultural Reset // I woke up feeling much more hopeful and inspired than I have in quite some time. So, finally felt motivated to post the last of my ‘Cranes’ + ‘Don’t Touch My Hair’ throwbacks from Oct 2016. We started in New Orleans and, after packing two RVs of crew + clothes, drove for days through states, deserts and mountains to capture these images. @saintrecords
sat me down weeks before and we mapped out concepts and creative that helped tell her story. I never posted these images - back then, I never really spoke about or shared my work. (Tbh it’s something I still struggle with today). Not because I wasn’t incredibly proud of the work and artistry we created, but because I didn’t want the conversation about clothing to distract from the vital message of the album. But the reality is that it changed things. It changed fashion and permeated culture. I read a quote from Solange that said, “I wanted to represent black sisterhood, strength, pride, and elevate the black man in all his beauty and glory.” How relevant and still so necessary today.
