I was asked a question in a interview yesterday and this was my answer. The proof is in the pudding. look at what your client is wearing/has worn and tell me if you are doing enough to uplift black talent in the design world. We are not a trend, we are not a token, we are not a compromise or after thought. We are not just to be thrown in the mix because the color of our skin. There is brilliant talent out there that DESERVES! a chance. They do not have the resources to have a atelier of workers, or even a half way decent sewer. No huge company is going to back them. No investor is going to take them on. No major design house is going to see the talent in them and make them creative director. You must uplift them. We have to become a priority. Without the black designer thriving there is no chance of us having a lasting legacy in this crazy fashion world.
