Hey DENVER! And specifically Councilwoman Amy Sawyer! @denvercouncil5 ! I hear The Denver City Council is meeting tomorrow, to possibly overturn @mayorhancock ‘s Denver Pit Bull Ban! Amanda, by all accounts you have done an incredible job for District 5, and I implore you to vote on behalf of the pit bulls that are currently in your shelters and living in the shadows of Denver as a result of Denver’s Ban. All they want is the right to be available for adoption from your shelter facilities, get registered, microchipped and be LEGAL... so they can be the the incredible Denver citizens that Kuma and I know they can be. If you want to chat about it, please by ALL means DM me... i would love to get on the horn and bend your ear on this subject.
IF you are a Denver resident, and IF you love, own or would like to rescue one of these animals that so rarely get a second chance, please attend tomorrows vote at 5:00pm at 1457 Bannock St, room #451 and RESPECTFULLY let yourself be seen, and your voice be heard. I’m sure a whole LOT of Kuma’s would show up if A: they knew this was happening and B: Had a voice. Denver, please Be their voice!
And Amanda! Come see me and Kuma if you are ever in New York City....and if that Ban is lifted tomorrow in Denver, we would so love to come see you and advocate for ALL dogs currently in your shelters! And discuss ways to get more of them homes.

We, the people, elect individuals in office to be the voice for US. It is unfortunate that @denvercouncil5 feels like the time to advocate is over. Our voices being heard, does not have an expiration date. We put our trust in you to ALWAYS listen, to ALWAYS advocate. We have been respectful, polite and able to listen to councils concerns - and that’s how we will CONTINUE to fight for what is right.

**Replace BSL supporters - remember to always be respectful when talking with council/press/opposition. To get our voices hear and our message across we must remain above the rest.

We’ve gotten a lot of messages about councilwoman Sawyer’s response about why she will not be changing her mind on the ban.

Although we hear the councilwoman’s concerns, our specific ordinance does not detail anything about leash laws because the City & County of Denver already has leash laws in place. The replacement of this ordinance will actually help in the enforcement of leash laws and allow for more funding and time to be allocated to this issue. Money will no longer be dumped towards an ineffective legislation, and Denver Animal Protection will not be receiving endless, inaccurate calls calling for the removal of pit bull type dogs.

We still have hope that councilwoman Sawyer will listen to reason. We plan to provide her with a list of dog trainers/dog-trainer facilities eager to provide pit bull training discounts, scholarships, and/or public education, as well as a list of low cost spay and neuter facilities. We will also be informing her of the number of volunteers we have accumulated thus far, and providing her with a breakdown of the volunteer departments. Many of our volunteers are interested in educating the public on current dog law, including leash laws.

We’ve still got a chance. Keep calling, emailing, and writing. Don’t give up hope just yet!

As always, please remember to be respectful, regardless of anyone’s viewpoint.

Those against the ordinance are worried about a lack of resources for pit bull owners. Are you a dog trainer/dog training facility in or around Denver willing to offer discounted pit bull packages should the ordinance pass? Please reach out to us so we can present a list of trainers to the Council!

Community involvement is crucial to our success. Should the veto be overturned, would YOU be willing to get involved? Would you be willing to canvas, go door-to-door, educate about past and updated dog law, be apart of the DPI Team? We are collecting a list of potential volunteers for the Council to see that we are willing and able to help educate the public and make our city more dog friendly; please email us at replacedenverbsl@gmail.com so we can add your name to the list.
