A line of women have their temperature checked as they cross the border from Goma, the Democratic Republic of Congo, to Gisenyi, Rwanda.
.
Nice to see my work on Rwanda's efforts to prepare for the risk of Ebola crossing borders on the cover of @svenskadagbladet, made possible by the @globalfund. Let's not forget that the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to fight the world’s second-largest Ebola epidemic on record, with more than 2000 lives lost.

The climb to Ol Doinyo Lengai was shattering. Steep and straight uphill through the night, the sharp, volcanic canyons lit by a narrow headlamp. Legs burning. A short, cold nap, teeth chattering, as my guide Sammy and I rested before the summit. Then, this. With the sun just beginning to emerge I could understand why the Maasai believe that this is where God comes from. Kilimanjaro’s flat peak shone along the horizon, and the pain of the climb washed away.
.
Story out soon in @magazineGEO, and many thanks to @magdalena.herrera for giving me the chance to experience this.

Glad and grateful to be part of a global project by eight women photographers from The Everyday Projects @everydayeverywhere and supported by the National Geographic Society @insidenatgeo!
.
The best part is that I get to work alongside the hugely talented @amritachandradas, @ksukuleshova, @miorarajaonary, @mridulaamin, @saiynabashirphoto, @thanafaroq7 and, of course, @davillasana, who threw her whole self into making this project a reality. A big, big thanks to @pritheeva for believing in each of us and in the importance of telling this story.
.
We can't wait to share more of this journey with you all, and introduce you to some brave and resilient people allowing us into their lives. Now, to work!

Sudan, you beauty. At a time of such halting, fragile change following the April ouster of Omar al-Bashir, one of Africa's longest-ruling leaders, I’ve been thinking back to earlier travels to this storied country. Driving back to Khartoum one evening I stopped to see the pyramids of Meroe — the lone visitor to a site so striking it took my breath away. Meroe was the capital of the Kingdom of Kush and the roughly 200 pyramids stretching out across the sands date back as far as 4,600 years ago. Many are tombs of the Nubian kings and queens who once ruled here, and a reminder that from the perspective of history power is always fleeting.

Wouldn’t have happened without the support of @PhotoWings and @viifoundation, and grateful to the African Leadership University for giving us a home for the week.
.

Such emotion in this image by @donwilson.odhiambo, a Kenya-based photographer and participant in last year’s @viiphoto "Rising Fast" workshop in Nairobi, Kenya with myself and @dannywilcoxfrazier. Join us this year: September 14 - 21, 2019!
.
’Rising Fast’ is a complete immersion into photography and storytelling right here in my home city, and the place where Danny began his career. During the week you will use Nairobi as a canvas to produce an in-depth visual essay on the aspect of the city's dynamism that most engages you.
.
I’ll be sharing some really inspiring work by past workshop participants this week. Donwilson's series documents the impact of  illegal moonshine, or changaa, on women from Nairobi's Kibera community.
.
We also have four scholarships available for photographers from Kenya, Burundi, Ethiopia, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania or Uganda. Just follow the link below, and reach out with any questions. Scholarship applications close August 15.
.
Hope to see you there, and follow the link in my profile for more details or to sign up!

I’ll be sharing some really inspiring work by past workshop participants this week. Lance's series explores the challenges Nairobians face while moving through their burgeoning city. A paucity of public transportation options colliding with an increasing number of private vehicles has overburdened Nairobi's infrastructure, resulting in the longest commute times of any city on the continent.

In case you missed it, we’re now a YEAR into the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and cases continue to surge.
.
Here, a woman washes her hands with a chlorine solution upon leaving the general hospital in Kyondo. The @who has set up several Ebola response camps in areas like this, outside the major cities, where small clusters of Ebola patients have been found.
