Built in 1868, the Grand Island East Channel Lighthouse was designed to help boats navigate from #LakeSuperior to Munising Harbor in lowlight and foggy conditions. The waters around the harbor are littered with shipwrecks due to the notoriously dangerous waters. The lighthouse stands today, unused and as a beautiful piece of Great Lakes maritime history and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Photographed for @natgeo #grandIsleLighthouse

Sunset procession, photographed at @jabulanisafari a benevolent home to a herd of rescued, orphaned #elephants and other animals. Last year I was fortunate to visit this beautiful place and learn about the conservation work being done here on behalf of a myriad of animals that have been rescued from injury in the wild, mistreated in captivity or otherwise orphaned. It’s hard work, expensive and done from a place of love, something the world needs more of. @danahrichardson @juliefranzrich

Zebra, the OG punk rockers - these core animals have been pulling off the Mohawk for the last 4 million years and counting 🤘🏻- Actual fact, You can tell the health of a #Zebra from how ridged their manes are due to the muscles around the upper neck that support this beautiful attribute.

Happy birthday to one of my favorite people, @angelajpayne - I’ve been lucky to have traveled all around the world and back with Angie on climbing expeditions, advertising jobs and journalism projects in both photo and film. Even in the worst of conditions, which I’ve definitely experience with Ange, she always manages to find humor and laughter in the situation. It’s been an honor to watch her grow from one of the best female climbers in the world to an absolute bad ass photographer and creative force. Angie, here’s to always rising to the occasion in cold arctic conditions, muddy jungles & snowy mountains, smiling when times are at their hardest, always being down to indulge my often ridiculous photo ideas, standing in for weird pre-light portraits and putting up with the constant junk show that working in production can be. You’re a legend, thanks for your friendship & all the laughs, happy birthday!

Michigan’s upper peninsula is a place of hidden gems ranging from natural beauty to gritty adventure. @angela_vanwiemeersch & @sashadigiulian seen here battling their way up the notorious HMR, an ice route formed by tannin rich waters above the cliff line that trickle down, giving it this yellow and orange coloring. It’s a really condition based climb, a mix of above and below freezing temps that allow water to pour down and freeze over, eventually forming in what you’re seeing here. The contrast of the icy blue waters of #LakeSuperior far below give the perfect balance of complementary color. This fickle piece of ice melted out and fell into the lake not a week after this was taken, in ice climbing timing is key. Photographed for @redbull on a fun project with @andy_mann @tjtriage @connor_seybert @lukehouse

Hurricane skies over the mouth of the #hurricaneRiver confluencing into the aqua blue waters of #LakeSuperior. It was a moody and cold day in @picturedrocksnps to say the least, but worth the mild suffering required for the photo ops. Photographed for @natgeo

Fresh from the icy waters of the greenland sea, a large polar bear pausing to lock eyes with my camera, an unforgettable moment. I photographed this beautiful bear here while on a climbing expedition to south East Greenland with @mikelibecki @ethan_pringle @andy_mann @connor_seybert - our trip began with an 11 day boat ride that had us primarily locked in sea ice as we slowly drifted south to our destination. In that time we saw only one #polarBear, a place where they should be thriving but have sadly been hunted to vulnerable numbers.
