Jopie the brown capuchin looks the other way as the whole classroom is in awe over how Bob feeds. Jopie is our last education animal to join forces in wildlife education. He came to the island 20 years ago. Ironically when dr.doest was working in conservation at that time in Peru/Brazil and Bolivia. Helping in research and education on how to help wildlife conservation in combination with ecotourism. At that time Dr Doest would give lessons to both tourists as local children and their parents. The focus than was what one individual can do to make the planet a better world. That focus is still there.Children have strong sense of what is fair and what not. So after hearing what ordeal smuggled baby animals go trough they will most definitely never think about getting a wildcaught animal. Jopie is 20 yrs and so imprinted on humans he would not stand a chance back in the wild. His owners had to leave the island and despite his legalized Cites status he was not allowed in the country they are moving to. And I agree. Ironically I am a big opposer of monkeys in captivity. If you read this and live in a country where people still keep monkeys. Do realize they are not ment to be as pets , like so many other animals. Realize that they are not mini human beings. Realize that they have very specific needs and way of communication. I have lived in the jungle for two years observing and being observed by his kind. He is ok living in my sanctuary. And at least with him at hand I can indeed shock children with the truth behind wildlife trade and the horrors for the animals involved. He now serves a purpose in education .A glimpse or an encounter with animals like Jopie or Bob can spark an individual to do better than his or her (grand)parents. Please don’t wish for a monkey as a pet. You don’t know what your asking for. If you do, you either don’t know what hell you put them trough or you choose to ignore it. We can do better than that. #educaçãoinfantil #education #educationmatters #teachersofinstagram #wildlifeeducation photo credits @consune

Today Bob met a Triplet. The little boy just could not believe how tall the bird was. One sister kept her distance and watched the other just say happy watching him. I explained them why in Bob his ideal world they would never ever use balloons. Yesterday we had to say goodbye to one of our education ambassadors “Pancho”. He brought joy to many in Covid times. United people from all over the planet to find a solution for his upperbeak. He did tell I’ll in July from pox virus and never fully recovered he seemed to be ok last week and we were o so happy. But than he relapsed. With a vengeance. But we keep fighting for all wildlife , pelicans are especially vulnerable for enviromental contamination. They get brutalized by fisherman in the Caribbean which realist in broken wings and beaks. I love them dearly. I really don’t want to have to mens another pelican that got hurt by wrong doing of people. Fishing lines, ghost nets, animal cruelty. Please stop littering, use less plastic. Don’t be using balloons, they think it’s.a fish. Can’t blame them. Have you ever tried diving into shallow water because you see nice fish and than take the time to filter out if one of the fish was actually plastic? I didn’t think so. So please be more aware of the plastic “problem” It causes more harm than you probably think. If you want to help us help... check out @jasperdoest . He is doing a fundraiser for the foundation. And you can get a great peace of photo artwork while doing that. THANK YOU !! I will put a link in our story too. #wildlife #wildlifeonearth #wildlifephotography #wildliferehab #wildlifeeducation #pelican #abirdnamedpancho

Pika ( the dog) is walking next to Bob as he return from education. Pika used to also go to schools . I imagen this is what he tells Bob: “ problem with you feathered folks, you guys live to be 80, me I am 15 now so I don’t have to go so often, but you my friend. You are at your Prime of your life at 15...go get those kids to love animals and wildlife”

I guess people don’t see a vet with her education flamingo, parrot, fluffy the dog and a bat in a box very often...😂😂😂😂

When it was time to go inside at night Dora, George and Thomas decided to go for one last swim... flamingos can swim. Lot of people don’t know but they have feet with webs between their toes just like swan, geese and ducks. So they can wade trough mud we as humans would sink in. They make their feathers water resistant while grooming them so they can stay afloat too for quite some time. They can even feed while swimming and love to take baths , also in the wild!!...#flamingorescue #wildlifeeeducation #flamingopool #funfacts

No we don’t only rescue flamingo’s. Most injured wildlife is treated @vetdoest . In this video medication is put into capelin and then fed to the brown booby. The surgery was rescheduled for Wednesday. It’s amazing how quick boobies adapt to their situation. If you want to donate and help financially with the care of the booby check our website www.fundashon-doc.com or the info in our bio. #capelin #piscivorous #avianveterinarian #avianveterinarian #wildlifeveterinarian #boobies #brownbooby #curacaoisland

It takes a flamingo in the wild up to 4 years to reach the color these flamingos have in the picture. The tallest one is George. He was attacked by feral dogs and left in a water area ( called a dam in Dutch ) not able to fly away. Observant @curacaobackyard notified dr Doest who was at the time doing Dutch track and field championship in Holland. They kept watching/ observing the flamingo and as soon as @vetdoest Odette and @jasperdoest were on the island the rescue was orchestrated. Borrowed a canoe from @birdwatchingcuracao and well the rest is history. Part of the operation pictures are featured @worldpressphoto 2019 and in several @natgeo articles. All because of the love of wildlife of our beautiful island Curaçao. His wing could not be saved and he became the first member of #bobtheflamingo flock. In 2017. Bob does the education, George keeps Bob with his feet on the ground, and says , “ cool that you educate all those folks but let’s flamingle” #birdsofinstagram #birdsofcuraçao #flamingorescue #curacao🇨🇼 #samenwerking #dierenliefde #wildlifeeducation

One of the most frequent asked questions is if the color of the flamingo feather is determined by what they eat. The answer is yes. The caroteen in their food sources is metabolized as causes the feathers to be different shades of pink. A flamingo with less caroteen in its diet will be very pale pink/ white.

This is the last turtle from the 30 plus turtles that. Were rescued in March. A floater due to injury to his back. Multiple fibropailomas including both eyes.( Hence the name el wowo; wowo means eye in papiamentu) .He is not floating anymore and it has been two months since his surgery. His medication he gets trough a feeding tube together with his seaturtle “ smoothy “. I would really like to thank @dmaderdvm Marjakik and Steve Diver and @drforwildlife You guys are always ready to chip in if I need to think things trough and have made me a wiser #reptilevet .

This seaturtle had humongous tumors on his eyes. And whole body. No internal once luckily. He or she was operated about a month ago, It has been in our care since March 2020. It took about 4 months to build the health from a lifeless floating non moving seaturtle to one fit enough to withstand operation. So far so good. One other similar seaturtle which also suffered a broken shield/ carapace unfortunately passed away last Friday. Dr Doest was really saddened . She saved that one from mere death 3 times but it just did not happen for that one. Fortunately this one called “ el wowo” is improving. #seaturtleconservation #seaturtlerescuecenter #turtlehospital #greenseaturtles #natureofcuracao #curacao
