芋圓潤腸健脾胃

芋圓常見配料:
地瓜圓 — 地瓜即番薯,性平,健脾胃,通便秘。適合脾胃虛弱及便秘人士,糖尿病人不可多吃。

It is from Taiwan and it is made by mashing steamed taro, then adding in sweet potato starch and water, mixing into a dough. Then the dough is separated and made into small balls, finally cooked in water. Chinese medicine theory says that taro is mild in nature, can strengthen the spleen and stomach, especially suitable for those with asthenic spleen and stomach qi, as well as those with chronic constipation. Those with diabetes should not have taro. Taro rice balls is commonly mixed with different ingredients so you can choose additional items based on your body type.  Remember to use less sugar.

由夏轉秋,除了皮膚變得乾燥,更討厭的是容易誘發氣管敏感,尤其早晚時段喉嚨經常痕癢,遇上致敏源或者吸到冷空氣隨即咳過不停,嚴重起來更會影響睡眠,雖不是甚麼大病卻對生活造成不少困擾。

塵蟎是其中一個最大的致敏源,塵蟎是活躍於室內、肉眼看不到的小蟲,在濕暖環境下有利繁殖,以人類或動物脫落的皮屑維生,最愛藏身地毯、毛公仔、床單、窗簾等表面的塵埃之中,所以如果經常身處家中或辦公室,每天就有大量機會接觸到,容易刺激氣管引起咳嗽。如果你不時乞嚏、咳嗽,症狀不似感冒或其它疾病,就有可能是過敏引致,在日常生活中保持衞生,勤換及清洗床單、被鋪,減少塵蟎積聚,對過敏情況會有幫助。
當溫度高於攝氏55度或濕度低於50%的環境中,塵蟎即無法生存,所以想消滅塵蟎,清洗床單被鋪時可用攝氏50至60度熱水清洗,或者如以下介紹方法自製高溫袋除塵蟎。

自製高溫袋除塵蟎
時機:晴天
材料:大黑色膠袋1個
做法:將床單被鋪放入大黑色膠袋中封好,放在太陽下曝曬1-2小時,因為黑色吸熱,有助提升膠袋內溫度至超過攝氏55度,殺滅塵蟎。

As we enter fall, aside from dry skin, the most irritating thing might be respiratory allergies. You may experience itch in your throat in the mornings and nights. In some cases, it may affect your sleep and interfere with your daily life. 
Dust mite is a major allergen, as it is quite common indoors and cannot be seen. They reproduce in damp and warm environment and survive on skin shred from human or aninals. They love to hide amongst dust in carpet, stuffed toys, bedsheets or curtains. If you are always at home or in the office, there's a lot of opportunities to come in contact with allergens causing coughs. If you find yourself sneezing, coughing, or symptoms that do not feel like a flu then it might be caused by allergy. Maintain good hygiene, change and wash your sheets often to reduce dust mites which will be beneficial for allergies. 
Dust mites cannot survive when humidity is below 50% or when the temperature is higher than 55 degree Celsius. So be sure to wash your sheets between 50-60 degrees hot water or try this DIY pouch to remove dust mites.

Timing: sunny day 
Ingredients: 1 large black plastic bag
Preparation: place your sheets into the plastic bag and seal it well. Place it under the sun for 1-2 hours. As the black bag will absorb heat, it will increase the temperature inside the bag killing the dust mites.

秋天宜「收斂神氣」,「逆之則傷肺」。中醫理論認為秋天當斂養肺氣,因為秋天主收,萬物收斂,肺氣內應,養生應以養肺為主,肺氣足,就可形成保衛身體之氣,預防病邪從氣管和皮膚侵入,不輕易患上感冒。秋天不妨多用沙參、玉竹,這兩種經常配搭一起使用的藥材,可以養胃生津、養陰潤燥,很適合秋天煲湯飲用。 
滋陰潤燥湯水小貼士:
適當地添加養陰潤燥食材如雪梨、雪耳、百合、枸杞子、花旗參、石斛等。

粟米雪梨黃耳湯
功效:滋陰潤肺止咳,紓緩因秋燥影響的乾咳、皮膚乾及口乾等症狀。
材料:粟米2根、雪梨2個、黃耳2塊、沙參15克、海玉竹20克、脫水羅漢果半個、無花果3枚
做法:
1. 所有材料洗淨,粟米去衣去鬚切段、雪梨去芯切塊,黃耳浸泡約半天備用。
2. 鍋中加入約2500毫升水,放入全部材料,武火煮至水滾,調文火煮約1.5小時,最後下鹽調味即可。

Chinese medicine theory states that with sufficient lung qi, you can also protect qi within the body preventing pathogen attack from the respiratory system and skin. This will help protect your body from cold and flus. Polygonatum and radix adenophorae are especially suitable during fall as they can nourish the stomach and promote fluid production, nourish yin and relieve dryness. 
Tips for fall soups:
Add in ingredients to nourish yin and relieve dryness such as pears, snow fungus, lily bulbs, wolfberries, American ginseng, dendrobium. 
Corn and pear soup with yellow fungus 
Effects: nourish yin, moisten lungs and relieve cough. Alleviate fall related dryness such as dry cough, dry skin and mouth. 
Ingredients: 2 ears of corn, 2 pears, 2 yellow fungus, 15g radix adenophorae, 20g polygonatum, half a dehydrated monk fruit, 3 figs 
Preparation: 
1. rinse all ingredients thoroughly. Remove husk and silk from corn and cut into pieces. Core pear and cut into pieces. Soak yellow fungus for half a day. 
2. Combine all ingredients with 2500ml of water. Cook on high heat until boiling. Then turn to low heat and simmer for 1.5 hour. Add salt to taste.

加鹽燉橙治熱咳
咳臣:「從小聽長輩說有咳不能吃橙,但聽說燉橙加鹽可以止咳,是真的嗎?」 CheckCheckCin:橙,性涼味甘酸,具和胃寬胸、化痰潤肺功效,但由於屬性寒涼,有風寒感冒、寒咳的人都忌吃,所以長輩說「有咳不能吃橙」是有其根據的。
然而燉煮過程可以改變食物屬性,經燉煮後的橙酸性大減,而且一般人會加鹽一起燉煮,鹽有清熱消炎作用,所以所謂「燉燈可以止咳」,指的是熱咳(風熱型咳嗽),伴隨症狀為喉嚨乾痛、痰色黃、黃色鼻涕、口渴及頭痛等,燉燈止咳的方法對於新咳比較有效,要注意寒咳食用的話有機會加重症狀。
咳嗽其實細分很多種,再加上各種痰的特質又有不同療法,想對症下藥,建議於食用前諮詢醫師專業意見。

CheckCheckCin: Orange is cool in nature with a sweet and sour flavour. It can calm the stomach, relieve phlegm and moisten the lungs. But as it is cool in nature, those with wind-cold flu, or cold coughs should avoid. So there is some truth to the idea that you should not have oranges when coughing. 
The cooking processing of stewing does change the nature of the ingredient and the sour flavour of orange decrease after stewing. Some people will add salt to it to stew as salt can clear heat and relieve infection. This idea that salted stew orange can relieve cough is targeted at hot cough (hot-wind related coughing), and usually accompanied by dry and sore throat, yellowish phlegm, yellowish mucus, thirst and headache. Stewed oranges can more effective relieve newer cough but those with a cold cough may get worse if they eat it. Coughing can be separated into different groups and coupled with differences in phlegm can result in different treatment plans. Stewed Orange
Ingredients: 1 orange, a bit of salt
Preparation: cut orange in half and make a few cuts on the orange meat then sprinkle on salt. Put the two halves together into a bowl and stew in a wok with water underneath for 15 minutes.  Use a spoon to scoop out meat and pith for consumption.

寒熱燥咳食物宜忌
感冒或流感過後,最討厭的是咳嗽久久未清, 除了有可能是餘邪未清,更多人是因為沒有戒口,吃了生冷或辛辣油膩重口味食物,增加脾胃負擔,延遲身體復原,結果一直拖著咳嗽的病尾。
咳嗽最簡單可以分為風寒、風熱及風燥咳嗽三種,三種咳嗽的戒口原則各異,所以首要辨清自己是哪一種咳嗽,適量食用宜吃的食物,忌吃的食物則要戒口,有助紓緩咳嗽。

風寒 — 喉嚨痕、痰色白、鼻塞、流鼻水
宜吃:辛溫散寒、宣肺化痰止咳的食物,例如生薑、蔥白、芫茜、陳皮、蒜頭、紫蘇葉等。
忌吃:生冷寒涼、粘糯滋膩的食物,例如橙、香蕉、梨子、提子、馬蹄、甲殼類海產等。

Suitable: nourish yin and relieve dryness, promote fluid production and relieve cough. Examples are lily bulbs, honey, radix ophiopogonis, snow fungus, fig, radix adenophorae.

寒露季節,代表開始步入深秋,古書記載:「九月節,露氣寒冷,將凝結也。」代表氣溫漸降,使空氣凝結成露珠,而且開始百花凋零,令人感到到秋季蕭瑟肅殺之意。寒露時節的養生重點為「養陰防燥」,當氣候變冷,人體陽氣收歛,陰精潛藏於內,所以要注意保養體內之陰精,一旦受到燥邪之氣侵犯,就會出現咽乾、鼻燥、皮膚乾燥等症狀。
古人云:「秋之燥,宜食麻以潤燥。」深秋宜多吃芝麻、糯米、粳米、雪梨、蘋果、杮子、蜂蜜、百合、蓮藕等滋潤食物,適時補充水份,注意足部保暖,睡前泡腳可以加快入眠。

It is important to nourish yin and prevent dryness during this season. As it becomes cooler, yang qi will be conserved, yin energy need to be protected. Once attacked by dry pathogens, you may experience sore throat, dry nose and skin. It is suitable to have more sesame, glutinous rice, round grained rice, pears, apples, persimmon, honey, lily bulbs, and lotus root. Remember to replenish your fluids and keep your feet warm at night. It may be helpful to soak your feet before bedtime too. 
Gentle reminders - have dusk rice water which contains black sesame to moisten the intestine and relieve constipation

如何對抗秋燥

秋冬滋潤米水特飲
中醫主張的「四時食養」,就是根據四季變化,進食合適的食物以平衡身體狀況,所謂「藥補不如食補」,每種食材都有屬性和功效,進食得宜自然有助改善身體機能。例如我們主張大家每天飲用健脾胃的米水,秋冬天可以加入潤燥或暖胃的材料,令米水更滋味之餘,又兼具多重養生功效。

秋季潤燥米水特飲
功效:健脾潤肺,紓緩秋燥帶來的乾燥不適症狀如皮膚乾燥、口乾等。
材料:紅米2湯匙、白米半湯匙、生薏米半湯匙、百合15克、雪耳半塊、冰糖適量
做法:
1. 將材料洗淨,雪耳先浸泡半天,剪掉底部黑色蒂的部分,剪碎備用。
2. 鍋內加入約1000毫升水,加入材料,以武火煮滾後調文火煮20-30分鐘,最後加入適量冰糖調味。
注意:米水容易變壞,建議每天煲好,一天飲完,不要過夜。

冬季暖胃米水特飲
功效:補氣暖胃,潤腸通便。紓緩大便不暢、手腳冰冷等。
材料:紅米2湯匙、白米半湯匙、生薏米半湯匙、蕃薯1-2塊、薑2-3片、冰糖適量
做法:
1. 將材料洗淨,番薯切粒備用。
2. 鍋內加入約1000毫升水,加入材料,以武火煮滾後調文火煮20-30分鐘,最後加入適量冰糖調味。
注意:米水容易變壞,建議每天煲好,一天飲完,不要過夜。 ・米水Q&A・
問:朝夕米水要於指定時間飲用才有效嗎?
答:我們建議朝米水於早上7-11時飲用,因為那是脾胃值班時間,夕米水於下午5-7時飲用,那是腎值班時間,那段時間吸收米水比較好,然而全日任何時間飲用都適合,只要建立每日飲用米水養脾胃的習慣就可以了。

Different ingredients have their nature and healing effects and choosing the right thing can improve your overall body condition. For example we suggest having rice water daily to strengthen the spleen. During fall and winter, you can also add in ingredients to relieve dryness or to warm the stomach. This can make tasty rice water and further improve its benefits. 
Fall rice water to relieve dryness 
Effects: strengthen the spleen and moisten the lungs. Alleviate fall time dryness such as dry skin and dry mouth. 
Ingredients: 2 tablespoons red rice, half tablespoon white rice, half tablespoon coix seeds, 15g Lily bulbs, half a snow fungus, appropriate amounts of rock sugar
Preparation
1. Rinse all ingredients thoroughly. Soak snow fungus for half a day and remove bottom dark base and cut into shreds
2. Combine all ingredients with 1000ml of water and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn to low heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes. Add in rock sugar. 
Note: rice water spoils easily and should be made fresh daily. Do not store overnight. 
Winter rice water to warm the stomach 
Effects: replenish qi and warm the stomach, moisten the intestine to relieve constipation. Alleviates difficulty passing stool and cold limbs.

「飯氣攻心」看似是自然不過的事,但有些人飯後睡意很濃,有些人卻很精神,差別不是在於吃多或吃少,而是反映個人的脾胃健康狀況。所謂的「飯氣攻心」,在中醫理論為「食後昏困」或「飯醉」,是指飯後困倦嗜睡。脾氣虛和痰濕體質的人飯氣攻心問題特別嚴重,因為脾氣虛弱,不能正常運化飲食物,增加了脾胃負擔,身體用了額外精力去幫助脾胃消化,人自然就會疲累乏力。

想改善飯氣攻心的情況,還是要從體質根本入手,多喝健脾祛濕湯水,養好脾胃,精神自然好。

健脾祛濕湯水小貼士:
適當地添加健脾祛濕食材如茯苓、赤小豆、粟米鬚、薏米等。

材料:蘋果2個、紅蘿蔔1根、乾淮山20克、生薏米30克、無花果乾3枚、腰果40克、黃豆30克

1. 所有材料洗淨,蘋果去芯連皮切大塊;紅蘿蔔去皮切大塊。

Soup to fight food coma 
Some people get really tired after eating and some become quite energetic, the difference is not in how much you eat, but it is a reflection of your digestive health. Those with asthenic spleen qi and with phlegm and dampness body constitution are prone to food coma as they cannot properly convert and transport nutrients.  The body uses additional energy to help the digestive system function which makes a person tired.
To manage food coma, it is important to manage your body type, have soups that strengthens the spleen and dispels dampness. 
Tips: add in ingredients that can strengthen the spleen and dispel dampness such as poria, rice beans, corn silk, and coix seeds.

2. Combine all ingredients with 2500mll of water and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn to low heat and simmer for 1.5 hour. Add salt to taste.

CheckCheckCin: When children don’t seem to grow, it may not be related to how much you eat, but rather due to asthenic spleen and stomach and nutrients is nor properly absorbed into the body.  Usual accompanying symptoms include poor appetite, prone to colds/flus, pale and dull complexion, shortness of breath, vocal weakness, excessive sweating, abdominal fullness and bloating, loose stool or constipation. 
Chinese medicine theory says that children’s organs have not completely developed yet so they are prone to digestive issues.  This is especially true for those that frequent consume cold/raw foods or drinks and sweets as these can add to the burden of the spleen and stomach. Try to reduce the amount of cold/raw food consumption, strengthen the spleen with ingredients such as potatoes, Chinese yam, lotus seeds, fox nuts, soy beans.
Tips to strengthen the spleen and stomach for kids:
- appropriately have soups that strengthen the spleen and stomach
- have coarse grains appropriately

一聽到「米水」二字,有人會聯想到洗米水、炒米水、薏米水甚至粥水,其實米水是中醫傳統養生智慧,食療養生著作《隨息居飲食譜》有提到:「粥飯為世間第一補人之物」,大米性平,補中益氣、健脾養胃。
我們鼓勵大家飲用的「米水」,用紅米、白米及生薏米煮成,紅米及白米屬性平和,加入少量生薏米取其健脾滲濕功效,此配方屬性平和,適合男女老幼飲用,每日一杯米水就能減低脾胃負擔。

中醫理論認為「脾胃為後天之本」、「脾為氣血生化之源」,說明我們自出娘胎,都是依賴脾胃的消化吸收、轉化功能,身體才能攝取飲食中的營養,各部分才能暢順的運作,所以養好脾胃,等於養好消化系統,擁有健康基礎。

簡易養生米水

The rice water that we recommend is made with red rice, white rice and coix seeds. Red rice and white rice are mild in nature, coupled with small amounts of coix seeds to achieve it's healing effects to dispel dampness and strengthen the spleen. This recipe is mild in nature, and suitable for the entire family. Having it daily can reduce the load on the spleen and stomach. 
Chinese medicine believes since we are born, our bodies rely on the spleen and stomach to digest and absorb, convert and transport to allow the body to absorb necessary nutrients from our intake. Keeping the spleen and stomach healthy means to keep the digestive system healthy which is a basis of health. 
Simple healthy rice water 
Ingredients: 2 tablespoons red rice, half tablespoon of white rice, half tablespoon of coix seeds 
Preparation: rinse all ingredients thoroughly. Combine all ingredients with 800-1000ml of water and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn to low heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes. *Rice water should be made fresh daily and should not be stored overnight as it may spoil easily. *for pregnant ladies, they can omit coix seeds

四物湯是常用經典藥方,使用熟地黃、白芍、當歸及川芎這四種藥材,具有補血、行血、活血的功效,幫助改善因血虛引起的貧血、心悸頭暈、手腳麻痹、臉色發白以及痛經等症狀,適合氣血虛弱體質人士飲用,而且無分男女。身體有偏熱症狀例如喉嚨痛、口瘡、暗瘡、便秘情況,則不宜服用。

體質虛寒、氣滯血瘀、氣血虛弱都會引致月經不適,而四物湯是以藥材調配而成,建議先諮詢醫師意見才自行服藥。

補氣血甜品——紅棗桂圓紅豆沙
功效:益氣補血、氣色紅潤、健脾和胃
材料:紅豆100克、去核紅棗3-4枚、桂圓10克、片糖適量
做法:
1. 材料洗淨備用。
2. 鍋中加入約1000毫升水,放入全部材料,以武火煮至水滾,調文火煮約1小時至紅豆軟綿,加適量紅糖調味即成。

又鹹又甜生飛滋?
飛滋雖然只不是小小的一點,疼痛起來不但影響進食,更會痛到不想說話!除了不小心咬到牙肉或舌頭而形成的飛滋外,有時候也會無緣無故生飛滋,莫非真的如長輩所說:「又鹹又甜生飛滋」? 吃鹹又吃甜就會生飛滋,或者只是哄小朋友先乖乖吃正餐才吃甜點的說法吧!生飛滋並非無緣無故,根據中醫理論,生飛滋即「口糜」,多因為脾胃積熱或脾胃氣虛所致,脾胃積熱伴隨症狀為口瘡紅腫、小便黃、舌紅苔黃等;如果伴隨症狀是氣短乏力、頭暈、大便溏瀉、舌邊有齒痕則為脾胃氣虛的表現。另外,工作壓力大、多熬夜,耗傷心陰,陰虛則火旺,陰虛體質的人也會出現口瘡症狀 。

想減少口瘡出現?飲食宜清淡,多吃生津養陰及有清熱功效的食物,減少進食辛辣、重口味食物,並要避免熬夜。

飛滋拜拜茶療
功效:生津養胃、滋陰清熱、針對熬夜後的口瘡、咽痛、目赤等問題。
材料:石斛粉1湯匙、花旗參粉1湯匙
做法:注入熱開水焗5分鐘即可。
建議一星期飲用2-3次為一個療程。

Have painful canker sores?
Canker sores can be small, but the pain can affect eating and even make speaking difficult! Canker sores can from biting yourself but may happen out of nowhere too. 
According to Chinese medicine theory, canker sores appear when you have heat in the spleen and stomach, or your spleen and stomach qi is deficient. Heat in spleen and stomach is usually accompanied by red swollen canker sores, yellowish urine, red tongue and yellow tongue coating. If the accompanying symptoms are shortness of breath, dizziness, loose stool, teeth marks on tongue, then it’s a sign of qi deficiency in stomach and spleen. Those with high stress, frequent late nights may have yin deficiency and excess heat, and will also experience canker sores. 
To reduce canker sores, try to have light diet, have ingredients that nourish yin and promote fluid production as well as clear heat.  Reduce intake of spicy and heavy flavoured food and avoid staying up late. 
Healing Tea for canker sores
Effects: promote fluid production and nourish stomach, nourish yin and clear heat. Suitable for late night related canker sores, sore throat, and red eyes.
Ingredients: 1 tablespoon dendrobium powder, 1 tablespoon American ginseng powder
Preparation: Place ingredients into thermos and add in hot water.  For best results, have tea 2-3 times in a week as one treatment course.
